Youth Worker - Outdoor Lead - Oarsome Chance Community Program
Salary - £27k per annum Full Time (salary review pending)
Overview
Following a significant grant received by Oarsome Chance from the National Lottery Community Fund we are delighted to be recruiting for two new posts to support a new holiday and after school provision for young people with special educational needs. This community programme will specifically target young people who due to additional needs have not, and do not, access holiday and after school provision. The new roles will be integral to the overall offer of Oarsome Chance and work across both our Havant and Gosport sites.
Purpose of the job
To work support the community lead in developing a robust and appealing holiday programme for young people with a range of support needs. The role will work directly with young people, helping them to build their confidence, develop healthy relationships and participate in safe and varied activities. To ensure safeguarding and support of all young people and to communicate with families including parents, guardians and carers as required.
Qualifications/experience
- Experience of supporting young people with additional needs using a relationship-based approach.
- Experience of youth work principles and engagement with a variety of young people.
- Knowledge of trauma and how it acts as a barrier to young people attending sessions. Experience of instructing outdoor activities of similar.
- MTB Level 2, BELA, RYA Instructor qualifications etc or willing to work towards.
- Understanding and experience in delivering high quality outdoor learning experiences.
- Understanding of theories and methods to enhance learning in the outdoors.
- Positive and solution focused attitude.
- Some youth work training/strong background in youth work.
- A willingness to work flexibly, including occasionally at weekends, where required to facilitate training days.
