Youth Work Co-ordinator – Part time 21 hours per week (flexible) £13.84 per hour

The Weller Centre is a local community centre in North Reading. The activities at the Centre include early years, youth, wellbeing, the outdoors and employment programmes in an area with high levels of social deprivation. 

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Youth Work Co-ordinator

The role

This exciting post concentrates on the delivery of a strong and imaginative youth programme for children and young people (6 to 21 year olds) at the Weller Centre by developing co-operative relationships with local organisations. Activities will run through term time and school holidays.

Activities will include sport, culture (music, photography, film and drama), health and discussing topical issues such as knife crime, bullying or drug issues.  You will act as a point of contact for young people by offering/providing advice, support, coaching and where appropriate counselling or other mental health assistance. 

A key initial challenge will be to build a Weller Centre football club for boys and girls aged 7-16.

You will work closely with the Community Learning and Outreach Manager to oversee the delivery of the Youth Work plan, including a fundraising and communication strategy and the production of written progress reports.

The person

The ideal candidate will have strong organisation skills, be a good communicator (verbal and written) and possess excellent interpersonal skills: the post holder will be interacting with a wide cross section of people from diverse backgrounds. 

You must be a self-starter, able to manage your own workload and have the ability to achieve through a team.  You must be a team player, keep calm under pressure, be empathetic and customer focused and be able to deliver on all commitments to Centre users. 

Education/Skills

Good general education, Youth Work qualification or similar.  Full Driving Licence.  Interest in sport and healthy living

Experience

Experience of working with young people/children in challenging social environments whilst complying with Health & Safety & Safeguarding systems

Experience of working in a target driven environment

Some experience of managing volunteers

The Youth Work Co-ordinator will be required to work some evenings and weekends so flexibility is required
