Early Years Practitioner – Part time 10 hours per week £12 per hour

The Weller Centre is a thriving local community centre in North Reading, the activities at the Centre include early years, youth, wellbeing, the outdoors and employment programmes in an area with high levels of social deprivation.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Early Years Practitioner (Level 2)

The role

You will lead the early years provision for the centre working within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage with the support of staff, volunteers and students.  You will ensure the safeguarding of the children at all times, ensure that SEN are met and that you promote diversity and non-discriminatory behaviour within the setting.

You will act as an ambassador for the Weller Centre by establishing effective relationships with key partners and stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, funders, statutory bodies and voluntary sector agencies.  You will be required to provide reports, both written and verbal, and other information (including performance and statistical analysis) to committees and management groups, as required.

The person

The ideal candidate will have strong organisation skills, be a good communicator (verbal and written) and possess excellent interpersonal skills as the postholder will be interacting with a wide cross section of people.  In particular you will demonstrate empathy and understanding of children under 5 years of age.

You must be a self-starter, able to manage your own workload and have the ability to achieve through a team.  You must be a team player, keep calm under pressure, be empathetic and customer focused and be able to deliver on all commitments to Centre users. 


Minimum Level 2 Childcare Learning & Development

Paediatric First Aid

Safeguarding Children


Recent experience in Early Years setting and working knowledge of EYFS and evidence of implementing good quality learning opportunities.

Experience of measuring and reporting on outputs and outcomes and working with professional and regulatory bodies.
