Our client are a national charity which has been supporting disabled children, young people and their families since 1970.

They work with children, irrespective of their disability or impairment, from birth through to 25 years.  Last year they supported over 11,800 disabled children, and worked with about 60 Local Authorities across England.

About The Role

The Lady Allen and Chelsea Playgrounds offer accessible and securely fenced green spaces, where children and young people with special needs and disabilities - and their siblings - can play in a truly supportive setting. The playgrounds are child led and centred - that means play is personally directed by the children, so they choose when, how and what they play with. Qualified staff are on-hand to provide equal access to all activities too, which gives each child a sense of ownership that enables them to make choices, develop friendships and have fun. Put simply it’s the perfect environment in which to thrive and develop.

What you’ll be doing

As Service Manager / Playground Manager you’ll be responsible for providing a range of play services that support disabled children young people and their families. Indeed, they’ll count on you to manage a team of play workers, alongside coordinators and senior practitioners that together run after school, weekend and weekly youth services. Recruiting and developing staff will be an important aspect of the role too, as will providing regular training. Delivering a programme of varied activities, managing the physical responsibilities of the playground like health and safety, maintenance, cleanliness and repairs and managing financial performance and keeping accurate records – all are elements of this truly rewarding role.

About You

Do you have a proven ability to create a positive play environment for children, a thorough understanding of safe practice and safeguarding processes and a real desire to help disabled children, young people and their families? Then join our client as a Playground Manager and you could soon be managing the dedicated teams at the Chelsea and Lady Allen Playgrounds.

You’ll need demonstrable experience in management, play and work with disabled children and a professional level qualification in play, or similar, in a related discipline. As well as the know how to create a positive play environment for children, we’ll be looking for the ability to write accurate reports, keep records and undertake monitoring and evaluation processes too. Comfortable recruiting, supervising and developing a large, flexible team, you have experience of multi-agency working and a good understanding of safeguarding and the relevant current legislation and regulatory frameworks. You also have strong critical thinking and decision making skills, a flair for prioritising and managing your workload and a willingness to work variable hours that can include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
