Our vision is to improve the health and quality of life of our diverse population by building an organisation that:

  • Excels in quality, safety, patient experience, research, innovation and teaching
  • Attracts, develops and retains great people
  • Is recognised internationally as a leading healthcare provider.

Join us as a Home Intensive Treatment (HIT) Team Support Worker and help shape young lives

As England’s largest NHS Trust, our size and scope mean you’ll gain exposure to a variety of complex cases and support that will be hard to find at other Trusts. Although the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has continually rated our CAMHS services as outstanding, we know there’s still more we can do. As we expand our service, we need people like you to support us in continuing to improve the outcomes and experiences for children and young people in Greater Manchester.

About us

The NHS Long Term Plan aims to provide all children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis with access to age-appropriate crisis care by 2023/24. Available 24/7 through NHS 111, it combines rapid crisis assessment, brief response and intensive home-treatment functions. To help us achieve this goal at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), we’re developing and implementing a crisis care offer to support children, young people (CYP) and those who care for them - to remain in their own home and aid their recovery during and after the crisis episode.

About the role

The Intensive Home Treatment (HIT) team is part of our new crisis care offering. It provides an intensive package of person-centred interventions young people and those that care for them in their home, community, hospital and other settings. As a HIT Team Support Worker, you’ll work collaboratively with our CAMHS and other Mental Health Services across the system, as well as Acute and/or Specialist Hospitals, the Police, Education and Social Care.

This is a diverse and challenging role that requires the development of specialist skills to deliver recovery-focused interventions to CYP. You’ll contribute to the community-based assessment, de-escalation and risk reduction interventions. Our focus is to support CYP – and those who care for them – to remain in their own home and aid their recovery during and after the crisis episode.

About you

You’ll need a National Youth Agency accredited Youth Work qualification or a Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practice (or equivalent experience). You should also have experience of working with, and offering advice to, CYP and/or families in varied contexts. Knowledge of evidence-based interventions for common mental health and emotional problems is also desirable but not essential.

To be successful in this role, you’ll be empathetic, organised and have excellent computer skills. You’ll need a high level of emotional resilience to help you think and perform well under pressure. Plus, the ability to create innovative solutions alongside CYP to help them meet identified goals.

Developing your career with us

We want our people to thrive in their roles at MFT. So we’re passionate about your personal development. You’ll get all the support you need to deliver the best care you can. Plus, you’ll get specialist training in the interventions that support people when in crisis.

We’re also deeply committed to innovation. So you can be sure you’re gaining experience at the leading-edge of Child and Adolescent Mental Health. We’re always looking to develop new ways of working and improve teamwork. So we provide regular training opportunities that focus on this, too.
