Senior Education Health and Care Plan Officers

Are you experienced in special educational needs and looking for a new challenge with responsibility in an exciting and fast paced role?

Due to an increased number of SEND referrals within the Solihull borough and the addition of a new role, we are looking for 2 additional Senior EHCP Officers to join our team.

As a Senior Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) Officer, you will:

  • lead the service’s complex case work, including ISP placements and/or lead a small team of EHCP Officers. 
  • work with families, carers, children and young people, providing support from the point of referral through to the assessment, support planning and review stages in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • undertake training, support, mentoring and supervision to staff members in writing quality EHCPs, including SMART outcomes and specific provision. 
  • benefit from great close working relationships, support and advice from our legal teams, external advisors, health education and social care colleagues

You will be joining us at an exciting time, as our newly appointed dynamic leadership team are keen to develop services and make a positive difference to the lives of families, carers, children and young people in Solihull.

These posts would suit an experienced SEND officer who can manage a varied workload, may have legal experience and has managed complex cases.

You will have:

  • a relevant qualification (e.g. teaching, social work, child care, psychology) or extensive experience of working in an Educational setting, EHC Plan Coordinator role or other role relating to the statutory SEND framework
  • experience and knowledge that will enable you to make accurate, reasoned and justified decisions under pressure in line with the local authority’s legal duties and obligations and in the best interest of the children and young people

You will also need:

  • Detailed knowledge of working to the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice and Statutory SEN processes.
  • Ability and willingness to learn to how to prepare tribunal casework and present at SEND tribunal hearings with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective informal and formal Mediation skills. 
  • Experience of managing complex cases, including undertaking assessments, support planning and review in a child-centered approach.
  • The ability to effectively manage staff and their workloads.

This is a rewarding role which will challenge your analytical skills, and your ability to support staff, and communicate and explain complex decisions and processes to schools and parents.

To benefit from the support of the wider EHCP Service, these roles are currently based in our collaborative open plan office space 4 days a week from Monday to Thursday, working from home on a Friday. The office is based in Central Solihull within walking distance of our shops and local amenities.
