Hertfordshire County Council Services for Young People is the primary provider of youth work; information, advice and careers guidance; work related learning and work experience to young people in Hertfordshire.  The Service is a key contributor to the prevention and early intervention / early help agenda including Hertfordshire County Council’s aim of supporting young people to make a successful transition to an economically independent adult life.

The Service delivers targeted prevention and early intervention work to ensure that young people get the help they need early and to reduce the necessity for higher cost specialist intervention.  It enables young people to succeed by providing high quality informal education opportunities to promote their personal and social development.  It supports young people who are challenged in education, their communities or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.

A highly motivated and experienced practitioner is required to both performance manage staff and deliver information, advice and careers guidance to young people in school and community settings.  You will support the work of the Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere Team by leading on local projects and key partnership links. You will have a caseload of young people, using guidance techniques to develop clear plans of action.

Flexible in your delivery including some evening and weekend work; you will be able to achieve deadlines and be proactive in supporting both the team and young people.

You will be qualified to degree level - either the Diploma in Careers Guidance parts 1 and 2; QCG (Qualification in Careers Guidance) or NVQ Level 6 in Advice and Guidance; and have evidence of relevant continuing professional development and the ability to put learning into practice.

You will be required to travel independently across the county so daily access to a vehicle is essential.

You will have good communication and IT skills as you will record data on relevant management information systems, producing reports and correspondence as required.

Benefits for working with Hertfordshire County Council include:

  • Excellent Career Development
