We are really pleased to advertise this newly created post of Safeguarding & Quality Practice Advisor – Post Adoption Support, which brings an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Social Work professional to join the Safeguarding and Quality Practice Team within The Children’s Society.

The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 130 years. Historically we provided residential, fostering and adoption services, it became a registered adoption agency in 1935 and our involvement within adoptions ended in 2004.  We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We’re there for children, every step of the way. We also have a strong community network, brilliant supporter base and over 100 shops.

The ‘Safeguarding and Quality Practice Advisor – Post Adoption Support’ is a key role within the SQP team and as well as providing safeguarding support and guidance across the organisation, you will fulfil functions required by our Ofsted registered Adoption Support Service. You will advise adult adoptees on issues arising from their adoption, complete Schedule 2 birth record counselling, support in accessing adoption records, and signposting to helpful groups or services.  The role will require the redaction of adoption and care adults records, and where requested the sharing of such records.

This is a dynamic and fulfilling role which will require you to use a broad spectrum of safeguarding knowledge and expertise, as well as your commitment to sensitively supporting others and undertaking high quality practice based work with adopted adults.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Social Work England registered Social Worker to join our dynamic, ambitious team.

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have:

  • Relevant Social Worker qualification such as DipSW, CSS, CQSW.
  • A minimum of 3-years’ experience working in Children’s Social Care.
  • Demonstrable sound knowledge and experience of adoption legislation and guidance.
  • Knowledge of post placement and post adoption support for families and children.
  • Demonstrable and applied knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures, policy and legislation.

Please be aware that this post covers a national geography and has team members that are located remotely and therefore there may be a need to travel to multiple work locations across England. There will also be occasional anti-social hours arising from the need to complete activities outside of working hours or to meet competing demands of the role.

The Children’s society has a strong commitment to your development as well as offering many benefits including; a generous holiday entitlement increasing with service, a contributory stakeholder pension, enhanced maternity and paternity pay and flexible working.

The Children’s Society is committed to safeguarding and protecting the children and young people that we work with. As such, all posts are subject to a safer recruitment process, including the disclosure of criminal records and vetting checks. We ensure that we have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services. This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Therefore, candidates applying for work in our CYP Directorate will be required to complete an “Employment history template” document prior to interview. The fully completed document should be loaded by the candidate once an interview is secured.

The closing date for applications is Midnight 4th October
