Programme Officer – Child Friendly Cities and Communities

2 roles: 1x North of England and Scotland, 1x London and South of England

Circa £35,000 per annum

Full-time, Permanent

Home based

UNICEF ensures more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. We have done more to influence laws and policies to help protect children than anyone else. We get things done. And we’re not going to stop until the world is a safe place for all our children.

This is a great opportunity to join the UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK)’s Child friendly Cities and Communities team.  As a result of growth, we are recruiting for two Programme Officers: one for the North of England and Scotland and one for London and the South of England.

As Programme Officer, you will help to realise UNICEF’s vision of putting children’s human rights at heart of cities, communities and public services by supporting local authorities and other organisations. This will be achieved by devising and delivering child rights training, facilitating effective planning sessions and providing credible guidance and oversight during the implementation of programme projects and activities. You will also undertake some research to support and inform programme development.

To succeed, you will be an excellent trainer, an engaging workshop facilitator who is able to both lead and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including children and young people. You will bring experience of working on social change programmes within the public or charity sector; in particular, we are interested in candidates with knowledge of or experience in one of the following sectors: youth justice, community safety, housing, health, urban planning, child poverty.

You will be knowledgeable about the issues facing children in the UK, and keen to play an instrumental role in securing social justice for all of the UK’s children and young people, particularly the most vulnerable.  In return you will have the opportunity to develop and grow within this learning-oriented programme.

Act now and visit www.unicef.org.uk/jobs to apply online.

Closing date: 5pm, Monday 27 September 2021.

Interview date: week commencing 11 October 2021 via video conferencing.

We expect that once things are back to normal, this role will involve significant travel (about 40%) across the region you’re responsible for (either North of England and Scotland or London and the South).  Until then, this role will work from home or from wherever makes you happy.

We particularly welcome applications from black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, LGBTQ+ candidates, candidates with disabilities, and from men, because we would like to increase the representation of these groups at this level at UNICEF UK. We want to do this because we know greater diversity will lead to even greater results for children.

UNICEF UK promotes equality, diversity and inclusion in our workplace. We make employment decisions by matching business needs with skills and experience of candidates, irrespective of age, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

The successful candidate will be required to apply for a criminal records check. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the role and the circumstances of your offences.

We only accept online applications as this saves us money, making more funds available for us to help ensure children’s rights.

If you require support in completing the online form or an application form in an alternative format, please contact Supporter Care on 0300 330 5580 during office hours.

If you do not hear from us within 14 days of the closing date, please assume your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. Please note that we only provide feedback to shortlisted candidates.
