The role

To role leads and manages to a high standard, the delivery of a broad and responsive Fourth Feathers Youth Club programme of activities for mainly 8 to 25 year olds.

Principal responsibilities

  • Managing Youth Club Programme
  • Operate within a team of youth workers to lead and facilitate sessions for young people during youth club evenings and school holiday programmes, including setting up and tidying away of resources
  • Lead and manage the overall programme throughout the year
  • Consult with young people to assess their needs and help develop and deliver a programme of activities, services and facilities designed to meet those needs. (Approximately seventy percent of the working week should consist of face-to-face work with club members)
  • Work with and listen to young people to identify their goals and build on their interests, help them to increase their confidence and skills and to progress
  • Create links with new young people and to support existing members
  • Develop and increase work around underrepresented groups
  • Assess and monitor young people to track progress and evidence the impact of our work
  • Plan and deliver accreditation opportunities to help benefit young people working with staff team
  • Maintain strong lines of communication with parents, carers and/ or guardians, providing regular updates and feedback
  • Complete administrative duties including collating feedback and evaluations, registers, registration forms and session summaries
  • To plan and develop structured activities that have clear learning outcomes
  • Successfully work with related outside agencies, particularly local schools in the delivery of youth projects
  • Ensure:-
    • all resources are utilised and policy and procedures are adhered to
    • staff are aware of their duty of care and will be expected to keep the centre clean reducing the risk of infection. This means wiping handles, doors surfaces and contributing positively to the hygiene of the centre
    • positive and negative feedback is given constructively to promote a professional approach to work
  • Raise awareness of equal opportunity issues, particularly in respect of gender and race
  • Appropriately safeguard any young people family members who are identified to be at risk
  • Lead and promote a positive health and safety culture, ensuring, as far as practicable, that activities are carried out under your control and in accordance with the Health and Safety policies and procedures. You may be required to undertake specific Health and Safety roles such as Fire Warden or First Aider as part of your duties
  • Offer guidance and support to staff while on shift, particularly when dealing with incidents
  • Inform the Head of Youth Service as soon as is reasonably possible in matters of dispute
  • Be accountable for any decision made in regard to the welfare of the young people and staff members during the shifts that you lead
  • Line Management
  • Be an active, positive, accountable member of the youth team
  • Demonstrate a high degree of consistent professional competence
  • Embed clear, effective communication so that the youth team feel engaged with and understand how they fit in
  • Work with the Head of Youth and collaboratively with the youth team, especially to champion an organisation-wide culture, live our values and facilitate high performance, quality, accountability, learning and forward planning
  • Work with the Head of Youth to:
    • build a dynamic and fluid team that has flexibility to deliver different elements of the service as demand dictates and ensure retention and succession planning
    • ensure all policies and procedures are being adhered to
  • Personal Responsibility, Team Work
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions as and when required
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and team members and participate in team activities as required
  • Act as an Ambassador for the charity when representing it externally
  • General
  • Take minutes at staff meetings
  • Provide support and work harmoniously with all staff
  • Ensure weekly tasks are completed to a high standard and within the time agreed
  • Take on projects as and when needed to support or develop the charity
