Victim Support (VS) is an independent charity providing a range of specialist services to people who have been affected by crime across England and Wales. We work towards a world where there are fewer victims but who have stronger rights, better support and a real influence in the Criminal Justice System. Everyone at VS is driven by our Vision Ambitions and Values to play their part in making a difference for those who experience crime and traumatic events. Working for VS gives you the opportunity to play a key role in a national charity providing high quality services to victims and witnesses and being a vital force for change.

The main purpose of the Youth Advocate is to deliver a specialist service to young victims or witnesses of gang related crimes or serious youth violence (SYV), including SYV homicide.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include delivering support to young victims of gang related crime, using appropriate service guidance and policy framework, both on a 1:1 basis and work in partnership with other professional colleagues in the boroughs. The Youth Advocate will develop and deliver innovative interventions to address the needs of children and young people, involving them in service design, delivery and evaluation.  The role will also require you to develop good working relationships with partner agencies and undertake detached / outreach youth work with Youth and Community workers engaging with hard to reach and hard to engage young people within their own communities. The role will also involve supporting young people affected by serious youth violence homicide's and responding to SYV incidents, ensuring the community is aware of the service and support available to them.

The successful candidate must have in depth knowledge, understanding and awareness of the current issues for children and young people experiencing crime, gangs culture and serious youth violence. You will have a proven track record of successfully delivering services for children and young people and successful youth engagement in a comparable role within a service-driven organisation, including knowledge of safeguarding issues relating to young people.

The post will be based in the VS office in Islington, but the work will mainly be delivered in the hub borough Enfield and two satellite borough's Barnet and harrow.

VS are committed to recruiting with care and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Background checks, Police vetting and Disclosed Barring Service checks will be required.

Victim Support offers competitive rewards and benefits including pension and life assurance, 25 days annual leave (pro-rata), voluntary benefits such as season ticket loans and the opportunity to play a key role in a national charity providing world-class services to victims and witnesses and being a vital force for change.

Applications should be explicit enough to provide good evidence against the shortlisting criteria, which are marked in the person specification as A. In order to apply, please create a profile in our website (jobs section), complete and submit an online application form.

We believe this can be achieved through attracting, developing and retaining a diverse range of staff from many different backgrounds. We therefore welcome applicants from all communities and monitor the diversity of applicants to analyse if we are representative of the communities we serve in terms of sex, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, trans identity, relationship status, religion or belief, caring responsibilities, age and socio-economic status. As part of our commitment to the Race at Work Charter we would particularly welcome applicants from BAME communities.

If you have the drive to make a difference within an organisation which makes a difference we look forward to hearing from you.

Company

Victim Support (VS) is an independent charity dedicated to supporting victims of crime and traumatic incidents in England and Wales. Our purpose is to provide specialist help to support people to cope and recover to the point where they feel they are back on track with their lives.

Last year we were in contact with over 1,035,032 victims of crime last year offering information, advice and support. 704,219 people visited our website and our dedicated local teams provided specialist emotional and practical support to 133,965 victims.

We are independent of the government, the police, local authorities and criminal justice system, but work closely with them and others to achieve our vision – a world where victims and witnesses are given the support they need and the respect they deserve.

Victim Support works with victims of crime and we put them at the heart of our organisation and the way we run our services. Our work, our support and our voice is informed and shaped by them.

As an organisation, victims are our only focus, and over the years we have developed unrivalled expertise in their needs, aspirations and their journey through the criminal justice system.

We are a national organisation but we are deeply rooted in the local communities in which we work.

We are local.

We are national.

We are independent.
