The role

Airplay is a prestigious youth work programme funded by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. The RAFBF exists to support all of the RAF family including the children and young people who live on or near an RAF station.  Action for Children are proud to deliver the programme alongside our RAF Partners at twenty-five locations across the United Kingdom.

Working from home the successful candidate will remotely manage a team of Youth and Play workers across a large geographical area (North Wales, Shropshire, Oxfordshire, Salisbury and Middlesex) so can be home-based in any of these areas. This will require you to develop and maintain excellent relationships with our partners in each location. The post does involves travel and occasional overnight stays in order to support those projects. 

You will make a difference by:

  • Supporting the provision of a high quality service to children, young people and their families, based on an assessment of need and outcomes.
  • Working closely with senior staff and RAF partners to review and evaluate service provision, ensuring continued improvements are made, driving innovation.
  • Demonstrating excellent youth work and play work skills and knowledge that can be implemented by your team at local level.
  • Chairing, facilitating and leading relevant multiagency meetings e.g. meetings with our partners, and local support groups.
  • Managing a delegated budget to ensure efficient usage and reporting, in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Nurturing, developing and promoting effective relationships and channels of communication with colleagues from within Action for Children and our partners at the RAF.

You will need:

  • A level 4 management qualification (Desirable).
  • A JNC professional youth worker qualification is a requirement for this role.
  • At least two years' experience of managing youth projects.
  • At least two years' experience of leading a staff team, including supervision, work allocation, assessment or training and personal development needs.
  • Experience of, or the ability to manage a team across a large geographical area and the use of communication technologies such as Skype.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including report writing, public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to engage with children, young people, their families and carers.
  • To be able to drive and have access to a car.
