Youth Support Workers in Charge

Opportunities in Stevenage, Welwyn Hatfield, North Herts and East Herts.

£12.04 - £13.74 per hour / £23,178 - £26,437 pa pro-rata

18 hours per week (including 4 evenings per week during term time)

At Hertfordshire County Council, we are passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for every member of our community. Many of our young people are excelling in life, but others face challenges and concerns such as being at risk of gang association, mental health worries and unemployment.

Our targeted youth service plays an essential role in helping these individuals develop the personal, social and emotional skills they need to succeed in life. With a focus on targeted prevention and early intervention in order to reduce the necessity for specialist involvement further down the line, this service is important in providing high quality informal education opportunities for young people who are challenged in education, their home lives and beyond.

With the overall goal of supporting vulnerable and at-risk young people in their successful transition to adulthood, you could play a vital role in this service. Managing a small team of Youth Support Workers and Volunteers, you will plan, deliver and evaluate engaging and educational group-work programmes on issues ranging from substance misuse and alcohol, to learning independent living skills. Working to understand service users’ interests and the challenges that they are facing in their lives, you will also work one-to-one with identified young people to help them access projects that will elevate their future prospects, and you will forge relationships with partner organisations that will enhance the work we are doing.

This is a valuable chance to take the next step in your career – while benefitting from flexible working hours that will fit around your lifestyle. To make the most of this opportunity, you will therefore need to have paid or voluntary experience of working with young people, plus good communication skills – particularly as you will be engaging with a range of young people from a variety of backgrounds, plus colleagues and partner organisations. You will also have the flexibility to travel across the district and when required the county, plus solid IT capabilities with the capacity to record data on management information systems.

In turn, we will provide you with:

  • Initial and ongoing training
  • Excellent career development
  • Flexible working hours
  • Access to our highly desirable contributory pension scheme
  • Access to the Herts Rewards Scheme which provides cashback plus discounts on everyday shopping, holidays, entertainment and leisure
  • Excellent wellbeing schemes plus access to a wide variety of support groups
  • Occupational maternity, paternity and adoption pay

Do something unique with your skills.

Join us today.

Closing Date: Midnight 31st December 2020

Interviews: Virtual interviews will be held on an ongoing basis
