Senior Residential Child Care Worker
From £30,954 per annum
Permanent full-time + excellent benefits
Eccles, Manchester
Do you have significant experience of working in residential childcare and/or evidence of transferable skills gained in a related discipline where you supervised staff/students? Then make the move to Salford City Council as a Senior Residential Child Care Worker and you could soon be playing a vital role within the friendly and highly professional team at Barton Moss Secure Centre.
Barton Moss has been an Ofsted outstanding provider of secure care for young people aged between 10 & 18yrs of age for the last 10 years. The Centre is highly regarded by the Ministry of Justice as one of their primary providers of care. We offer a very high standard of child care, which encourages young people’s educational development, emotional health and personal wellbeing. We also operate a thorough care system and transitional planning is key to the successful resettlement of the young people from custody into the community. Right now, we have some exciting vacancies available within our team. Join us, and together we’ll continue to build on our success and bring new experience, knowledge and ideas into our service.
About the Role
Working 36 hours per week, averaged over a 4 week rota, we’ll count on you to contribute to the health, welfare, and positive social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of a group of young people who are being looked after. This will involve carrying out tasks identified in the care/training plan for each young person, or by the Head of Home, responding to the day-to-day and longer term needs of each individual, and helping to create a homely but purposeful atmosphere in the centre. Put simply, you’ll ensure that the Unit provides a safe and secure environment for residents, staff and others who have business there, while at the same time ensuring residents’ liberty is restricted in accordance with the law.
About you
You’ll need a Diploma Level 3, or equivalent, in Residential Childcare. You’ll also need proven relevant experience, a good understanding of the relevant legislation and the knowledge to differentiate between good and bad practice and challenge practice where appropriate. Familiar with the needs of young people and adept at developing effective care/training planning and key working, organising and involving them in homemaking and development of general life skills also comes naturally to you. What’s more, you’re as comfortable assisting with duties relating to the financial management and administration of the centre as you are maintaining accurate manual and electronic records. And, when it comes to motivating, developing, training and supervising staff, both individually and in a team setting, again you deliver.
About the Benefits
You’ll be welcomed into a friendly environment where your personal and professional development will be encouraged - we currently aim to give staff 12 development days per year. You’ll also have the opportunity to work and grow in a people-centred and values based organisation that promotes a positive permission culture. Your opinions matter, so you’ll have the chance to shape how we do things through our Salford 100 employee group and our employee led redesign approach. Your work-life balance and wellbeing are important to us too, so you’ll have access to a range of benefits, including green travel scheme, pension scheme, salary sacrifice schemes, a range of health and wellbeing options to suit your needs.
Please note that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check – currently £44.00.
Barton Moss premises have been assessed and been judged as meeting all COVID requirements in relation to keeping all staff young people and visitors to the centre safe as possible as set out by Salford’s Health and Safety officer. You will have an individual risk assessment when you join the organisation to ensure we effectively support your health and wellbeing throughout your employment.
We are committed to developing a culture which respects individuals, appreciates difference and allows everyone regardless of background to reach their full potential.
