Whatever It Takes Lead Guide
Location: Kingston and Richmond
Salary: £44,790 to £47,841
Are you an experienced, creative and influential leader who is passionate about helping break the destructive cycles of children and young people committing crime?
Hosted by AfC, Whatever It Takes (WIT) is piloting a new way of working with children and young people who are, or are at risk of, repeatedly committing crimes.
WIT provides children and young people with the support of a WIT Guide who has the time, skills, experience and flexibility to do whatever it takes to bring about real change so that, one day, they will no longer be needed.
The role
As a WIT Lead Guide you will be responsible for leading and maintaining the high-quality delivery of the WIT pilot in your area. Whilst your role is not a traditional team manager, you will use your skills as a leader and experience as a practitioner to ensure the local WIT Team makes the most of the support available to them through the WIT Framework, practices, and local resources, and by working across agencies and organisations as a champion of WIT.
You will lead by example in forming and developing supportive relationships with 2-3 children or young people who are, or are at risk of, repeatedly committing crimes. You will be there in moments of crisis, such as after an arrest; when they are in most need of support and open to being challenged about the decisions that got them into trouble – as well as to celebrate successes, big and small. Over a period of around 18 months you will work with them and everyone in their world, doing whatever it takes to build trust and a connection that can bring change.
This is an ideal role for experienced social workers, teachers, youth workers, youth offending practitioners or other professionals with strong leadership experience who want to invest in meaningful, skilled and direct work with children.
As a WIT Lead Guide, you will;
● Use your skills as a leader and experience as a practitioner to lead team meetings, group supervision, and collective decision making whilst contributing to the development of the WIT pilot.
● Work tenaciously with a small number of WIT participants with the time, flexibility and resources to help them change their lives;
● Build strong relationships with fellow professionals as an advocate for the WIT programme and WIT participants;
● Take responsibility for achieving individual and team outcomes, and ensure a high standard of recording and reporting across the team when needed;
● Where relevant for a WIT participant you will need to take on the statutory functions of the Youth Offending Team.
About WIT
Whatever It Takes will break the destructive cycle of children and young people committing crimes so that, instead, they make a positive contribution to our society and build better lives for themselves. For more about WIT visit www.whateverittakesuk.com

Within the UK youth justice system black children and young people are acutely overrepresented. This is especially true in London where WIT is piloting its first two programmes. It is essential for the quality of our work and the children we work with that WIT teams reflect the individuals and communities they serve, and therefore we actively encourage black applicants to apply for all WIT roles.
Closing Date: 08/11/2020
Interview date: First interviews and assessments will take place between the 16th and 20th November. Successful applicants will be invited to a final interview on the 23rd or 24th of November.

Company
WIT works with children and young people who are, or are at risk of, repeatedly committing crimes. We do not define them by the criminal offences they have committed but treat each as an individual.
At the heart of WIT’s approach will be the relationship the child or young person has with a WIT Guide. Participants will typically spend 18 months with their WIT Guide who will have the time, skills, experience and support to do whatever it takes to get alongside each child and young person - helping them to change their life so that, one day, they will no longer be needed.
Through the WIT journey participants will develop strong foundations on which they can build a future that benefits both them and society including raised aspirations, improved literacy, numeracy and communications skills.
