Service Manager for Vulnerable Children

GOVERNMENT OF JERSEY

Service Manager for Vulnerable Children

£66,590 - £76,299 per annum

Permanent, Full Time

Ref: SOJ09558

‘Average’ is not enough – exceptional is where we’re heading

We need to be clear from the outset. On the island of Jersey, we haven’t done enough for vulnerable children over too many years. That’s not an easy thing to face up to, but right here, right now, we’re doing just that. Every child deserves a bright future, and we are making sure that ambition becomes a reality. With a bold plan to shake up how things have previously been done, we’re looking for an innovative leader to lead our new Vulnerable Children Team.

This is the type of challenge that you simply won’t find elsewhere. Reporting to our Head of Inclusion, you will join the Education Directorate of our new Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills. As a Service Manager, you’ll strategically lead new teams which provide advice, training and services that improve the outcomes of children and young people while reducing educational inequalities.

You’ll be able to directly shape the team as well as our future policies and strategies, bringing specialists, nurseries, schools and colleges, agencies and other partners together to create solid, workable plans that can change lives. You’ll also take charge of the team budgets, resources and training programmes to drive the highest standards of service, under an overall Government commitment to “putting children first”.

Against the backdrop of a stunning island existence where the quality of living is exceptional and your work/life balance is guaranteed, this is an opportunity to shape a brilliant future for yourself and for Jersey’s most vulnerable residents.

We know that change won’t happen overnight. But we are committed to ensuring that our plans ultimately bring about a better existence for Jersey’s children. So if you have recognised teaching and broader qualifications, and significant experience across working with vulnerable learners, educational strategies and managing peripatetic teams, then you may well be the perfect match for us. All you need is plenty of resilience, exceptional communication skills and a determination to be part of this important change.
