Would you like to help improve the lives of Young Carers across London Borough Sutton and support them to be advocates for change across the UK?

Did you know that there are estimated to be over 700,000 children and young people in the UK helping to care for a member of the family who is sick, disabled or vulnerable due to physical, mental health or substance misuse issues? Sutton Carers Centre works to improve and maintain the quality of life for these Young Carers and their families. We are committed to developing our own services for Carers but also work with partner organisations to influence how they recognise, respect and support Carers, too.

Trying to balance caring responsibilities whilst growing up can have significant impact on a young person’s health and wellbeing. At school, attendance, behaviour and achievement can all be affected. It is vital that Young Carers get the recognition, respect and support that they need.

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and skilled person, with exceptional communication skills, who can develop creative ways to reach and help Young Carers speak up and be heard, as well as grow as people. This includes advocating for their rights, influencing local and national strategic decision-making, and increasing their ownership over the delivery of Young Carers’ service provision. Applying your demonstrable experience, you also will organise and develop a range of social and educational activities alongside these Young Carers, events that will enable them to have short-term breaks from their caring roles and the opportunity to develop their lives, aspirations and abilities.

Sutton Carers Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and children and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS and other appropriate checks.

We value the diversity of our teams and are looking for talented people from all backgrounds to join us.  We particularly encourage people who are black, or from minority ethnic or refugee groups, and colleagues from LGBTQ+ communities, to apply. Men are currently under-represented in our Young Carers team, as well. We also seek applicants with personal caring experience as well as welcoming applications from people with lived experience of mental health issues.

Closing Date for applications:  Monday 5th October by noon

Proposed date for interviews:  Tuesday 13th October
