There are a range of Permanent and Fixed term vacancies available to cover Full time and Part Time hours.

A unique opportunity has arisen to join Bristol City Council’s Children Residential Service or the Children’s short breaks Service.

In the residential service we are currently re-profiling our existing homes, and moving to a model of smaller children’s homes for 2 to 3 children; to allow us to provide a therapeutic care experience for our children, and to facilitate a better matching of placements. You will work under a newly developed framework that will offer an in-depth induction and training programme, enabling you to fulfil your role. In addition, you will have high quality managerial support available to you, to maintain a high professional standard in your work.

We want to hear from you if you share our passion for working with children who have not had the easiest start in life. Our aspirations for our children are high in all aspects of their lives, and we aim to provide a homely environment where children feel safe, loved, and nurtured. We use a trauma informed approach in our work, to enable us to better understand the needs of our children, and to provide individual care packages.

You will have the flexibility to work a varied shift pattern including; sleep-in duties, weekend working, and working on Bank Holidays. Furthermore, we need you to be willing and able to escort and attend holidays with children, which will include overnight stays of up to one week. You will be based in a children's home in the City and will be required at times to work across other homes, to meet service needs.

In addition to the basic pay allowances you will be paid for shift work, sleep-in duties, and for working on Bank Holidays.

Within our Short Breaks service we also have opportunities to work with disabled children in our well established homes in Hengrove and Lawrence Weston. These offer overnight stays to children with a variety of disabilities, offering them fun new experiences away from their family home, giving opportunities to create friendship groups, whilst also support parents to have a break from their caring role to spend time with their other children or recharge.

Bristol has also opened its own disabled children’s home which is currently also at our Hengrove location, whilst work is underway to secure a purpose built location in the Lawrence Weston part of the city. We are currently recruiting to posts within this service which is a 24/7 all year round service.
