Introducing Chance UK

Founded in 1995, Chance UK is an award-winning early intervention organisation, who provide support for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, and their families. We believe that alongside reducing difficulties in the short-term, early intervention offers the opportunity to help children flourish in adolescence and adulthood.

Since being set up just under twenty-five years ago, we have worked across London, as well as in Liverpool and in Wales via our social franchises. Informed by extensive evidence and research, our programme of one-to-one mentoring and groups and family support helps children aged 5 - 13 to develop the social and emotional skills they need to realise their potential.

Our vision is to create an innovative, collaborative and inclusive organisation that is at the forefront of providing the most effective programmes to children across the UK. The Chance UK team are driven by our shared belief that, with the right help and support, children can develop the skills and confidence to understand their emotions, manage their behaviour and build a better future.

We are looking for up to five dynamic and experienced Youth Workers who will be responsible for engaging and supporting a caseload of up to six children on two mentoring programmes; Explore and Empower and Secondary Transition Empowerment Programme mentoring programmes.

About the role:

Chance UK has been delivering early-intervention mentoring programmes across London since 1995. Mentors pick the child up from home and run a 1:1 session in the community, once a week for 2-4 hours. They use the solution-focused approach to work on building the child’s self-esteem and confidence, set goals and explore new places. We are currently running all of our mentoring services via online platforms and phone to adhere to the current government guidance on the prevention of the spread of Coronavirus. We are slowly resuming with face to face sessions in discussion with individual families, whilst adhering to the current government guidance.

We are looking for youth workers on our flagship mentoring programme; Explore & Empower.

Explore & Empower is Chance UK’s flagship early intervention programme that supports 5-12 year old children with behavioural and emotional difficulties and their parents/carers. This nine month-long programme empowers children to develop their skills, confidence and life aspirations through weekly mentoring sessions alongside 1:1 and group support for parents and carers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Attending Chance UK’s mentor training (either two full days or three evenings) and delivering a structured mentoring programme according to the principles and ethos outlined
  • Mentoring a caseload of up to 6 children for a six-nine-month duration. Every effort will be made to allocate Youth Workers to children who live in a close area so that sessions can be completed as efficiently as possible
  • Meeting each child on a weekly basis, online or picking up/dropping off at home, building rapport, and planning appropriate activities according to their individual interests, abilities and goals
