Streets of Growth is seeking to employ an experienced and entrepreneurial individual as a Youth Intervention Worker on a full-time basis who has a strong track record of working with young people (15-25 years) and their families. 

The successful candidate will join our innovative team of Intervention Practitioners who interweave street work, outreach intervention with entrepreneurial programming focused around lifestyle change, education, enterprise, employability and the environment, that positively change the socioeconomic realities for stuck young people (15-25) and their families.

  • The successful candidate will be skilled in engaging, assessing and delivering interventions designed to support young people to build personal resilience and move away from harm and violence.
  • The successful candidate will possess sound risk assessment skills and safeguarding knowledge.  A key component of the job role is, case management and good practice models, which underpin Streets of Growth practice.
  • We are seeking individuals with an understanding of research-based theories related to children, young people and family intervention that would be beneficial to working within our model.

There is an expectation of a start date of either the end of August or early September for the appointed candidate.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Three years experience of youth work, targeted youth work (such as gang intervention, county lines) family intervention, social work, youth justice, probation, education or health.
  • A professional qualification in: youth and community work, social work, probation, family intervention, health, education OR relevant degree and experience.
  • Experience of direct work with children and young people; and their families particularly in relation to youth violence, weapon carrying, youth crime, abuse, mental health and trauma, etc.
  • Able to build effective working relationships with a diversity of individuals and groups.
  • A positive, non-judgmental and supportive approach to families.
  • Experience of providing high quality coaching support and knowledge of approaches (coaching and emotional intelligence) that ensure young people and their families can develop the resilient skills needed to move out of crime, violence, harm and poverty.
  • Experience of working in outreach and field-based capacity, particularly in relation to street work.
  • Commitment to improving outcomes
  • Experience of inclusion, safeguarding, and teamwork.
  • Excellent communication and administration skills.
  • Good IT skills and ability to use Microsoft packages and previous experience of inputting data on CRM system.
  • Desirable is the experience and or a good understanding of the needs and challenges facing young people and communities of Tower Hamlets and East London.

Contract: One-year fixed term with potential to be made permanent dependent on progression achievements and funding. Full time 37 hours per week (however, part time applicants will be considered). Evening and weekend working will be required but will be reflected in workload and working hours.
