3 days (22.5 hours) per week and must be available for evening and weekend work where necessary

Summary and aims of role:

 
The Youth Participation and Outreach Coordinator will support the Learning and Skills programme through targeted outreach and participatory activities that introduce new audiences to Somerset House, and support under-represented young people to access the cultural offer.   
 
At the heart of this role is the mission to diversify and sustain participants in the cultural programme, and to nurture future generations of creatives.  This will be achieved by offering a range of visits to Somerset House, developing outreach projects that take Somerset House into communities and working collaboratively with colleagues to engage young people in our creative  careers offer.  
 
This role will also work with the team to strengthen youth voice in our community by establishing a sustainable offer that enables young people to develop their skills and to use the rich environment at Somerset House to fuel their own creative ideas.  This role will be instrumental in reaching new young audiences through inspirational and transformative activities that support them to discover new talents, skills and interests, and that contributes to supporting emerging talent. 
 
Main activities and responsibilities:

 
• Develop and deliver high quality creative and participatory activities for young people in formal education and informal settings, to deliver the strategic aims of the Learning and Skills and cultural programme. 
 
• Build community relationships with target groups that enhance the cultural programme and support community cohesion by providing relevant and accessible creative experiences.  
 
• Develop a sustainable approach to youth participation through a regular offer for those under the age of 24, that is joined up with wider Learning and Skills activity. 
 
• Deliver outreach activity that promotes the Creative Careers programme at Somerset House and that supports applications to the Creative Careers Academy. 
 
• Host visits to Somerset House to engage new audiences in flagship cultural programme activity including Skate, films, Earth Day installations and key exhibitions. 
 
• Support creative, artist-led projects on site and in community settings, developing practice and shared language that supports young people and artists to collaborate effectively. 
 
• Lead departmental communication about youth participation and outreach activity ensuring a joined up and holistic approach.   
 
• Use Tessitura and other relevant software to develop a comprehensive database of participatory contacts focusing on relevant institutions, community organisations, local charities and services that will support the diversification of participants in Learning and Skills activity, observing GDPR and safeguarding protocols. 
 
• Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation approaches that are sensitive to a diverse audience, and that are in-line with wider departmental practice. 
 
• Write regular reports to reflect on outcomes and lessons learned from youth engagement and participatory activity.  This includes contributing to reports for funders and stakeholders. 
 
• Work with the Head of Learning and Skills to develop a strategic approach to youth engagement and audience development, working with colleagues to identify new opportunities. 
 
• Develop audience consultation opportunities, and build a professional network of trust to inform new programmes and projects, ensuring the learner voice is represented and the offer is relevant. 
 
• Contribute to the strategic and creative development of the programme when required 
 
• Keep up to date with the latest policy and practice with regard to youth engagement, diversity, access and inclusion in the creative and cultural sector. 
 
• Take an active interest in developments in the creative sector including trends in youth employment, and artistic practice.
