Link Manager - Changing Behaviours

Location: Barnsley Academy, Barnsley

Salary: £28,107 per annum (£31,905 full time equivalent)

Permanent, 37.5 hours per week, term time plus 1 week (40 weeks).

Closing Date: Monday 3 June 2019, 12 noon

To Start: September 2019

We are looking for an inspirational and committed leader to manage our new Link Provision.

The role will involve leading a small team of like-minded individuals, working with some of our more challenging students who struggle to access their mainstream provision.

Barnsley Academy is a rapidly improving school in the heart of Kendray currently judged as Requires Improvement by Ofsted but on a rapid journey to be a Good school. The introduction of The Link provision is part of that journey to Good as we ensure we are fully inclusive without exception in order to deliver the best possible bespoke packages to our harder to reach students.

We are looking for someone who is an excellent communicator and who is committed to our community and the children who attend the Academy. Our ideal candidate will be someone who wants to work closely with students, staff and families to support positive behaviour. There will be delivery of English and Maths lessons plus other vocational qualifications, so applicants will need to be qualified as a Teaching Assistant with HLTA a desirable qualification.

You will need to have previous experience of working directly with behaviour in a school or a similar setting such as a pupil referral unit or a special school and also experience of leading small teams of people. Having an understanding of some of the challenges involved in such a role is essential.

The role is very varied and needs someone who is flexible and can adapt their style of teaching and guiding students in a variety of settings. Part of the role will involve working outside in both a community/horticultural capacity and an outdoor pursuits capacity – so a love of the outdoors and physical activity would be an advantage. A sense of humour and down-to-earth approach would also be useful working with our students. The provision is still in its infancy and is evolving, so the person who takes on this role will play an important part in shaping the provision. An ability to organise and introduce new educational experiences for children would be advantageous.

The successful individual will be working with other provision Managers to maintain current levels of positive behaviour and support the further evolution of systems and processes under the direct leadership of the Vice Principal for Inclusion, so experience of working as part of a team is also very important.

The successful candidate will need to drive the school mini-bus locally to transport Link students so applicants must hold a full driving licence and be willing to take the mini-bus test (Midas), if they haven’t done so already. Team Teach training and safeguarding training will both be provided for the successful candidate if not already.

Applicants are encouraged to visit to the academy before applying, please contact Karen Jones, PA on 01226 574168 or karen.jones@barnsley-academy.org to arrange a visit.

Barnsley Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.
