Salary: £46,991 - £48,748 + London weighting of £4,426 if applicable

Closing Date: Sunday 07 April 2019

Cafcass supports over 135,000 children and families each and every year, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, putting their needs, wishes and feelings first and ensuring their voice is heard at the heart of the family court setting. And the targeted use of technology is what puts us at the forefront of our sector.

If you join us as IT Manager (officially this position is called Senior Technical Architect) you will be joining an increasingly digital organisation that is continually investing in our staff in order to drive performance and efficiency within a workforce that is diverse, flexible and highly mobile. All of which has contributed to Ofsted rating us ‘outstanding’ when they recently inspected us.

We have already made great progress and have a fully cloud-based technology stack but the successful candidate will play a key role in developing our technical strategy and taking us further forward. This is a role which crosses from architecture, to security, to live service, always working alongside business colleagues. If successful, you will lead a team of Technical Analysts and be responsible for:

·        Our enterprise architecture and the design and implementation of an appropriate technical architecture, including leading on horizon scanning and evangelising for the benefits of technology.

·        Embedding a strategic and secure approach to the development and use of innovative information technology solutions across Cafcass.

·        Working closely with business colleagues and suppliers to ensure the alignment of technology with business requirements.

·        Supporting the effective running of live technology services.

Does this sound like a role that interests you? If so, let us tell you a few things we’re looking for in the successful candidate:

·     You are likely to hold a suitable, recognised qualification and/or have demonstrable experience over many years in IT disciplines including;

o   technical architecture

o   network management

o   application development

o   information analysis

·        Evidence of successfully working with and managing a range of external service providers.

·        Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations and technologies with a primary focus on Microsoft products (i.e. Windows 10, Office 365 and SharePoint)

·        Strong leadership skills that create positive, effective and sustainable relationships

We are completely flexible on location as we support remote working but you could reasonably expect to be in one of our offices or other location (such as onsite at suppliers) 1-2 days per week and some national travel will be required (e.g. to our office in Bloomsbury, London or our National Business Centre in Coventry). We also provide a competitive and rewarding remuneration and benefits package, on which further information is provided in the attached.

We look forward to receiving your current CV highlighting your suitability for the role of IT Manager / Senior Technical Architect. If you would like further information on why you should consider joining Cafcass, please visit www.cafcass.gov.uk. Alternatively, if you would like an informal conversation about the role, please contact Rob Langley, Chief Information Officer on robert.langley@cafcass.gov.uk with details of how and when to best contact you.

Finally, we want to let you know the timescales we’re working towards.

w/c 08/04/19                                  Initial telephone interview

w/c 22/04/19                                  Panel interview and assessment

The above dates are provisional and subject to change but we'll endeavour to keep you informed.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships. We are also a Disability Confident Employer which further underlines our commitment to employ, train, retain and develop the careers of colleagues with disabilities.

Please be advised successful applicants will be subject to a range of pre-employment checks, including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In accordance with the DBS code of practice and our own policy, should an individual have a declared criminal offence an individual assessment will be completed. Further information on what the assessment covers can be found by viewing the Cafcass DBS policy

Company

Cafcass stands for Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service.

Cafcass represents children in family court cases in England. We put children’s needs, wishes and feelings first, making sure that children’s voices are heard at the heart of the family court setting, and that decisions are made in their best interests. Operating within the law set by Parliament (Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000) and under the rules and directions of the family courts, we are independent of the courts, social services, education and health authorities and all similar agencies.

Our duty is to safeguard and promote the welfare of children going through the family justice system. Our experienced Family Court Advisers may be asked by the court to work with families and then advise the court on what we consider to be the best interests of the children involved in three main areas:

  • divorce and separation, sometimes called ‘private law’, where parents or carers can’t agree on arrangements for their children
  • care proceedings, sometimes called ‘public law’, where social services have serious concerns about the safety or welfare of a child
  • adoption, which can be either public or private law.
