This is an exciting opportunity to grow, develop and ensure high quality delivery of Aston-Mansfield’s youth work. We have a range of dynamic youth projects, and a strong staff team, and are looking for someone who can provide leadership and direction to our work, as well as managing the day to day operations.

Our youth projects in Newham include HeadStart creative courses for young people at risk of mental health issues; Young Achievers Group (YAG) for young people with special educational needs and disabilities; a youth leadership programme, Youth4Youth; and outreach/streetwork.

Job Description

Primary Task

To develop and manage Aston-Mansfield’s youth projects, growing and improving the quality of our work with young people

Authority

To manage and oversee all youth projects. To act as a representative of Aston-Mansfield at appropriate forums and events and build relationships with relevant stakeholders. To work with fundraiser to raise funding for youth projects.

Accountability

Directly accountable to the Chief Executive Officer

Relationships

To keep the Chief Executive Officer informed of matters relating to all youth projects and other associated activities

To organize Youth team meetings, programme reviews and evaluation processes which involve discussion and decisions affecting the development of Aston Mansfield’s youth work.

To work effectively as a member of the management team

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all staff, volunteers and centre users

To maintain relationships with other individuals, groups, voluntary and statutory agencies, funders in Manor Park, London Borough of Newham and other areas appropriate to the aims and objectives of Aston-Mansfield’s youth work

To maintain and develop relationships with key stakeholders, including YPP partners, commissioners and funders

Main Tasks

Grow, develop and ensure delivery of Aston-Mansfield’s youth work, in line with our strategy

Overall responsibility for the day to day management, supervision and training of all Aston-Mansfield youth project staff and volunteers

Overall responsibility for the development, implementation and evaluation of Aston-Mansfield’s youth projects

Overall responsibility for developing new youth projects

Specific Tasks

To ensure that for all youth projects, activities are planned, prepared and implemented, in consultation with the young people and staff.

To ensure that all youth projects are delivered, and all staff and volunteers managed, in line with Aston-Mansfield’s safeguarding policy and procedures

To develop existing and new relationships with partners to ensure that they engage positively with Aston-Mansfield, particularly in relation to work with young people

To implement an impact framework to evaluate all youth projects, and to review and evaluate all youth work on a regular basis

To prepare high quality monitoring reports for funders and for the Aston-Mansfield board

To budget, prioritise and allocate available human, financial and material resources as and when required by the Project's activities.

To ensure that for each project there is a steering group/advisory group of young people who assist in the development of projects

To ensure that all day to day administration including the operation of youth projects, registration processes, accounts - including petty cash, risk assessments are accurate and up to date.

To work with CEO and fundraiser to achieve youth work fundraising targets in the resource generation plan. This will include building positive working relationships with the local voluntary and statutory sector who wish to work in partnership with Aston-Mansfield.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential:

Educated to degree level (or 5 years’ experience in youth work management)

Youth Work qualification

Child Protection/Safeguarding training

Desirable:

First Aid training

H&S training

Management qualification at Level 4 or above

Proven Experience

Essential:

Substantial experience of working in a similar environment/role

Experience of leading, developing and improving the quality of youth work

Experience of leading and managing staff and volunteers to deliver outcomes

Experience of raising funding for youth projects

Experience of evaluating the impact of youth projects

Skills/Abilities

Essential:

Ability to think strategically whilst dealing with day to day issues

Flexibility and resourcefulness

Strong communicator with young people and staff

Ability to work effectively across teams
