A rare opportunity has arisen to join the management team of West Sussex YOS as the Community Supervision Team Manager. West Sussex YOS is a high performing multi-agency statutory partnership which provides services before and after Court. The service works to ensure children and young people at risk of offending are identified and offered appropriate intervention which address their risks, meet their needs and builds on strengths, so as to enable positive and sustainable outcomes for children, families, victims and communities.
This is an exciting time for West Sussex YOS, as the service is enhancing its work with children and families. This includes developing new operational processes, as well as embedding innovative intervention methods and techniques; such as trauma informed practice, building the use of desistance approaches, enhancing restorative justice and ensuring a focus on whole family working. Addressing factors such as disproportionality and the exploitation of children is central to practice. In addition, the YOS is part of a newly developing adolescent service in West Sussex, which will work with our most vulnerable adolescents to increase their strengths, safety and stability within their community.
As part of the management team you will contribute to the development and shaping of services for children, families and victims. This includes leading your team and the wider service through this exciting period of change. You will need to be passionate about making a difference, using research based innovative practice and promoting excellent decision making; to ensure children and families receive the right intervention at the right time so as to sustain positive outcomes. You will provide expert supervision, including mentoring/coaching, and support the development of reflective and relationship based practice. Your role will be essential to ensuring the service maintains and evidences strong performance against local and national targets.
The Community Supervision Team Manager will work alongside four other Team Managers. You will manage a team which is responsible for the supervision and delivery of all Out of Court disposals, bail or remand programmes and Post Court Orders to children who are assessed as presenting a low to medium risk of reoffending or serious harm and low to high safety and wellbeing.
You will need to hold a professional qualification recognised by one of the YOS statutory partner agencies, e.g. social work, probation, youth work, health, youth/ criminal justice, police, or have a relevant degree and extensive youth justice experience. You will need to have significant experience of working with complex children and families, as well as overseeing performance and development to ensure high practice standards.
This role is based within in a supportive team environment with access to specialists and colleagues from the wider service. You will receive regular support and supervision from the YOS Manager, as well as access to relevant and specialist training to build and develop your skills.
