Detached/Outreach Youth Worker (Research)

Temporary contract - one year

Salary: JNC Point 22 (£16.06 per hour) Dependent on experience and qualifications

Hours: 18 hours per week including evening work.

A qualified and experienced youth worker is required to be part of our team.  The main geographical area for the project will be the poorer areas of our parish and the centre of town including parts of Sidemoor and Charford wards. The young people we will be reaching out to will be those who are not involved in positive activities such as sports, art, uniform groups or church groups.  Our aim is to build relationships that the young people feel are built on trust.  This work will be led by youth workers who are trained and experienced in working with young people.  Through these relationships the workers, having got to know the young people and gained their trust, will be able to support them.  This can lead to dealing with issues such as problems at school, home, peers, substance misuse, and crime.  It can also lead to raising their aspirations and broadening their experience.  Also, it can provide an opportunity to challenge the young people on issues that affect them and their community. In some cases it may lead to referring the young people to specialist services.

The workers’ aim will be to give the young people a voice on what they see as their needs and the issues affecting them.  This will enable the young people to provide material in order to make a video.  A professional video company will also be used to assist the young people in the production of the video that will be of a professional standard and therefore have the maximum impact in putting their views across.  However, the young people will be fully involved in its content and message.  It is intended that, through this video, young people will have a voice in what the outcome of the project will be and the future of it. The video will be shown to professional agencies and interested adult groups in Bromsgrove including members of local churches.

We are ideally looking for qualified candidates; however we will consider those who have enough relevant youth work experience.
