Southwark is a dynamic, youthful and diverse borough in the heart of London. Children and young people make up a significant proportion of our population, with around 70,000 residents aged 19 or under and 66% of our children and young people are from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. Southwark is an amazing place to grow up, with a huge range of activities and places to places for young people to go, from libraries to events and support for arts and drama as well as activities in our parks and playgrounds, leisure centres, sports and youths clubs, as well as services provided by a range of voluntary and community organisations. We have just launched our new Activities for Children and Young People strategy 2017 - 2020 and following a restructure of the service are looking to recruit enthusiastic, highly motivated, committed people to seem key new roles.

The role

25 hours per week, salary pro-rata

Are you a qualified youth worker with a NVQ level or above with leadership experience? Do you have the skills, patience and coaching qualities to develop a new centre based team? Are you a role model to young people? Are you seeking a new challenge?

We are looking to appoint exceptional youth work leaders who will be responsible for the development and delivery of our new youth programme of activities within their designated youth centre.

The successful candidates will have demonstrable experience of managing centre based youth programmes, whilst organising and supervising a small team of part time youth workers to deliver universal to targeted youth work provision. You should have a commitment to engaging young people to enable them to influence the centre’s youth programme, combining it with informal learning and targeted issue based work that is focussed to seek to address the challenges young people face in their transition to adulthood.

You will be a role model to staff and young people, leading by example to achieve our 5 strategic outcomes: happy, healthy, Active, Safe and Prepared as detailed within our new activities for children and young people strategy.

You will possess a good understanding of and the ability to routinely incorporate safeguarding and health and safety expectations into day to day practise to keep children and young people safe.
