You already have sound experience of working with children and young people affected by custody. So bring your talents to this vital service - and take your career forward with one of the UK’s largest children’s charity.

At Barnardo’s, we believe in children. Our purpose is to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children and our vision is to realise Thomas Barnardo’s dream of a world where no child is turned away from the help that they need. If you share that vision, this is your opportunity to be the voice of children and young people within a challenging environment, and to ensure their rights and entitlements at these two Secure Training Centres are met.

Leading, motivating self and others, and supporting a dedicated team of advocates/children’s rights workers, you will oversee all aspects of service delivery. That will include ensuring that children and young people can access services and entitlements, developing their self-efficacy and resolving any issues relating to their welfare, care and treatment. You’ll also work closely with other agencies whilst clearly demonstrating your independence from the centre, and directly manage complex cases.

Clearly, this is a challenging and rewarding role in a challenging environment. As such, it demands a highly motivated, solution focused, resilient and tenacious professional who can champion the rights of children and achieve the best possible outcomes.

Proven experience of safeguarding young people detained within the criminal justice system is essential too, along with excellent team leadership skills, a knowledge of relevant legislation and an understanding of National Advocacy Standards and the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child. You should also bring a proactive and flexible approach to working hours, a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
