Do you have a strong background in children's residential care? Are you focused and passionate about changing the lives of children and young people for the better? We have a unique opportunity for experienced residential managers to join our team in the North East as Registered Managers for Children's Homes for Children who are Looked After. These are exciting, challenging and rewarding roles with the opportunity to make a huge personal impact. The roles will be based in a variety of locations across Newcastle and Tyne and Wear.

Action for Children is in the process of developing its residential offer for children and young people who are looked after. This is an incredibly exciting time to join a dynamic leadership team in the North East contributing to an innovative UK wide programme. Our successful applicants will have a real opportunity to build a team who will improve the outcomes of children and young people by providing safe, stable and loving homes for them to live and thrive in. The successful candidates will bring with them their experience of working in 'Good' or 'Outstanding' Children's Homes.

As Registered Manager you will work with a range of professionals to ensure the children and young people you support develop to their full potential. You will lead, inspire and motivate your team to hold the highest aspirations for children and young people and will liaise closely with Ofsted to ensure regulatory compliance and excellence. We will actively support you in your role and provide you and your team with specialist training, development and supervision.

How Action for Children works

Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children across the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of over 300,000 children, young people and their families - but for every child who needs help to get help, there's plenty more to do. That's where you come in.

The person

Ideally holding a relevant Level 5 qualification (e.g. Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare) you will have extensive experience of working in residential homes for children who are looked after. You will have a detailed understanding of the Children's Homes standards and will be confident in ensuring services are regulatory compliant. Ideally you will have experience of managing staff and volunteers working in challenging situations and supporting them to offer the highest standard of care to children and young people. You will have a detailed understanding of attachment theory and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on the development and behaviour of children and young people.

You will be committed to Action for Children's defining statement, "keeping the child at the centre," and promoting our participation standards in your work. You will also be committed to inclusion and promoting diversity in line with Action for Children's values.

The rewards

When you join Action for Children, you will be joining a collaborative, diverse and supportive team of like-minded-individuals, every one of them as passionate as you are. We want all of our employees to feel valued and well rewarded for the vital work they do.

When you work with us, we'll recognise your efforts:

  • By paying you a competitive salary and a generous paid holiday allowance- minimum 29 days (pro-rata) plus public/bank holidays with the opportunity to buy/sell up to 5 days leave
  • By supporting your work/life balance with a 37 hour working week
  • By supporting you and welcoming new additions to your family - flexible maternity, paternity and adoption packages
  • By giving you a pension - we have a contribution scheme that matches a maximum of 7% employee and 7% employer contributions which includes a death in service benefit.
  • By providing excellent learning and development opportunities and all the support you need to thrive.
  • By giving you access to discounts at hundreds of retailers

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to vulnerable children's lives and to build a fulfilling and meaningful long term career with a leading UK children's charity.
