Our mission is to revolutionise education!
Beyond the Classroom is a youth led education social enterprise. We deliver innovative life-skills programmes to young people, with an emphasis on the performing arts, youth leadership and peer mentoring. We share our learning with local and national decision makers in order to influence policy.
Our programmes equip young people with the knowledge and tools they need to be leaders in their own lives, schools and communities. Our work is in no way exclusive. However, we currently have a focus on supporting young women from low-income and minority ethnic backgrounds, aged 11 to 19.
We are looking for dynamic and dedicated individuals with a strong interest in developing the career aspirations and employability skills of our young people. The people we’re looking for will have the energy, dedication and initiative required to support the facilitation of Beyond the Classroom’s Beyond Careers programme.
Are you do you have a few days spare between the 10th and 14th of July to help us deliver our work experience programme? Are you looking for an opportunity to inspire and raise the aspirations of talented young people from diverse backgrounds(primarily BAME girls)? Are you looking for a short term volunteering opportunity? - If you share our vision for an education system more reactive to contemporary issues and would like the opportunity to work with a small, progressive, proactive and exciting social organisation, this could be the role for you!
The Programme and Your Role
We provide young people from diverse backgrounds high quality careers and employability programmes. We work in collaboration with companies, schools and community groups to raise aspirations and realise the potential of our young people.
Our students do not simply make the coffee or file paperwork! Instead they are on hand to influence real business challenges while developing key skills in budgeting, project management, and presentation skills.
Your remit will be to support the facilitation of our work experience programme, working with small groups of young people and supporting them to develop employability skills within inspiring business environments.
You’ll support the smooth running of our pastoral processes while working with students, Support small groups of students to think deeply about real business challenges and provide motivation & inspiration to our young people.
The successful applicant will have;
- Excellent presentation skills ·
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A conscientious approach to completing tasks
- Willingness to learn new skills and experiences within the BTC organisational framework
- A strong interest in youth development
- Reliable and able to work on your own initiative (to schedule and within budget)
- An artistic flair and creative approach to facilitating groups
- Evidence of a clear DBS history
- An interest in working directly with young people in a personal development setting
- Experience of working with young people of diverse and challenging backgrounds
- Experience of youth programme facilitation
- Good knowledge of the social and economic context of South London
