Summary of Job

We're looking for someone who is passionate about the welfare of young people to join our friendly and dedicated Safeguarding team. As a Safeguarding Adviser you will be responsible for supporting local Scouting volunteer managers in responding to concerns or complaints, and for liaising with statutory agencies and others to ensure that young people are kept safe from harm.

The Safeguarding Adviser will join our staff team, supporting the development and operation of Scouting’s child protection and anti-bullying policies.

About you

You will possess excellent communication skills, the ability to deal sensitively with complex situations and to establish professional relationships with others rapidly. You may have had previous experience in safeguarding matters, working with volunteers or dealing with difficult situations.

Discretion is also an important element of the Safeguarding Adviser's role. The role will require a significant amount of travel within the UK, so a full driving licence is essential, as is the flexibility to travel long distances, sometimes at short notice. You may spend periods working from our UKHQ offices at Gilwell Park, Chingford, London. The Safeguarding team operates an 'on-call' system during out of office hours, so you need to be prepared to play your part in delivering this important service to our membership.

The safeguarding and welfare of young people is vitally important to us. As such, a satisfactory enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure is required, as is pre-employment psychological screening.

About us

Every year 400,000 young people in the UK enjoy new adventures, experience the outdoors, interact with others, gain confidence and have the opportunity to reach their full potential. The Scout Association plays a vital role in developing young people for adult life. The Safeguarding & Vetting team maintains and develops Scouting’s child protection, anti-bullying and vetting policies to ensure that young people stay safe while in our care.
