You’ll give vulnerable children a voice. You matter.

As part of our Children and Young People’s Trust Participation Team, you’ll help some of the most vulnerable people in our community express themselves. Your efforts could have a profound effect on children and young people, encouraging them to look to the future with hope and confidence.

The role

As part of the Children and Young People’s Trust Participation Team, you’ll work with disadvantaged children and young people aged 0-19 (up to 25 with specific needs & leaving care), particularly the 5-10 age group. You’ll be tasked with encouraging them to talk about issues that are important to them, helping them to overcome negative experiences and engage with their community. You’ll listen to what these young people have to say and help them to participate in new ideas, activities and events.
Our Targeted and Specialist Youth Service works with schools, agencies, individuals and organisations to create bespoke programmes that engage young people and meet their needs in a number of different ways, such as 1-2-1 work, mentoring, sexual health drop-ins, school programmes and group work.

Your skills and experience

An organised professional, you’ve worked with children and young people before. So you’ll know how to talk to build a rapport with them and identify their needs. You have (or are willing to work towards) a Local Youth Work qualification and a firm grasp of safeguarding procedures. Training will be provided, including the chance to study for a relevant NVQ level 3 qualification. Above all, you must have the enthusiasm and commitment to deliver our initiatives across the county and make a difference to young lives.

In return, we will support you with all the resources needed to help you meet the demands of a challenging job. We believe in backing and supporting successful, talented people, who are proud to work for Bucks CC – a top-rated, 4-star council, and who want to make a difference to improving people’s lives. We are committed to ensuring that our best asset – our people – benefit from long-term rewarding careers, growing and working with us to meet the challenges of a changing environment.
