You’ll help the youngest members of our community to feel valued and included. You matter.

We’re keen for young people to help us shape the services we provide for them. So we want you to encourage the younger members of our community to get involved with our decision-making and discover the learning opportunities we offer. It’s a chance to help create better services - and to make young people feel included, valued and integral to our work.

The role
Buckinghamshire County Council currently recognises the achievements of young people through a number of awards including the Arts Awards, the Youth Achievement Award and the Bucks Award. Your task will be to develop and co-ordinate these accredited learning opportunities, while encouraging young people to get involved in the Council’s decision-making. It means working with accreditation colleagues to arrange the necessary training, publicising the Awards and setting up moderation panels. You’ll also work directly with young people, encouraging participation, organising youth forums and making sure our opportunities are open to all. Through your efforts, we can strengthen our Youth Programme in schools, establish the principles of participation in the delivery of youth work and bring young people into the consultation process.

Your skills and experience
Having worked with children and young people before, you’ll already be comfortable talking and engaging with them. Your strong communication skills will certainly help, while an organised approach will ensure that projects and initiatives run smoothly. A teaching qualification or JNC-recognised qualification in Youth & Community Work is essential. However, we’ll also consider your application if you’re willing to work towards this. We’ll also be looking for some experience of working with awarding bodies. Most importantly, you’ll need the sort of enthusiasm that young people will recognise and respond to.

About Buckinghamshire County Council
We offer a wide range of benefits, including the support you need to learn and excel. It’s all part of being part of our team. You and your work will matter a great deal – both to the Council and to the community we support - so we’ll do all we can to recognise your contribution and help you progress.
