Do you enjoy working with, and on behalf of, young people? Are you interested in mental health and campaigning for change? We are looking for a motivated, organised and enthusiastic individual to play a key part in our campaign to end mental health discrimination. Sounds interesting? Time to Change is an ambitious programme to end the stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental health problems, and is a partnership between Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. The programme consists of projects throughout England including a national social marketing campaign and local community initiatives as well as a dynamic social movement for change driven by a large network of activists, champions and organisations from all sectors.

The regional campaign officers will be joining the Time to Change programme working with young people from all walks of life, parents and practitioners to improve the lives of everyone affected by mental illness. Based in Rethink Mental Illness’ communications, campaigns, information and research business unit you will help us set up and pilot the children and young people’s work-stream in the West Midlands, with a particularly focus on Birmingham from 1st April 2012 and another regional pilot from October 2013 to September 2015.

You will need to have experience of working directly with young people whether they have personal experience of mental health problems or not – understanding the issues parents, practitioners and young people face. You will have ideas on how to tackle mental health discrimination and be committed to empowering young people to take a leadership role in campaigning for change. Working within a supportive team, your excellent project management and communication skills will be essential.

Working closely with your Time to Change colleagues based in Rethink Mental Illness in London, and your Mind colleagues based in London and Birmingham, you will help us to deliver the key elements of the Time to Change Children and Young People’s work stream; social marketing, social media, organisational and community engagement, social leadership, education and the involvement of young people with experience of mental health problems and those without, across the West Midlands.

You will have excellent relationship management skills which you will use to engage a network of youth organisations from within the mental health field and beyond in the two pilot site areas. You will have experience working in a team, have excellent communication skills and must have a good understanding of the child and adolescent mental health system with a youth work qualification.

This role would offer an ideal secondment opportunity for someone already working with young people in a community organisation
