The UK Youth Parliament is recruiting two new posts to enable us to strengthen and extend two areas of our outreach and partnership work.

Project Safe Space Outreach Co-Ordinator

For over two years we have been working with young people to help develop a better understanding of the world in which they live following the London bombings of 07/07/2005. The main message delivered through that work is that young people from many communities do not feel they have safe spaces to discuss issues related to preventing terrorism and violent extremism and Islamophobia. Many myths abound, and not many young people are aware of their rights. We have developed Project Safe Space to attempt to address these issues.

This post holder will work with young people to deliver a series of regional youth-led events to provide safe spaces for young people to discuss issues which concern them. This process will also provide accurate information, promote rights awareness and provide youth work professionals with tools to enable them to address these issues sensitively. A final report will present the views of young people attending all nine events and suggest coherent policy changes.

Details for posts:

For each post we are looking for a dynamic person with at least three years’ practical experience in the youth field with a strong track record of building partnerships and arranging events. Good awareness of policy issues relating to the individual posts (democratic engagement and community cohesion/preventing extremism) will also be tested.

Location: With offices across the country we can offer flexibility with location. We’re looking for the best people. Our Head Office is currently at 8 Wakley Street, London, EC1V 7QE, though we will shortly be moving to another London location.

Salary: £23,001 - £28,228 plus £2,500 London weighting if applicable.

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week).
